This dynamic and interactive workshop will focus on providing participants with knowledge of effective and appropriate intervention strategies to assist young children in developing self-control. This presentation will focus on the latest research in the field of early childhood on best practices of in helping young children develop self-control. Through a combination of role-playing and other active participatory methods, participants will learn how to implement these practical and effective strategies immediately into their program. The workshop will address the key issues surrounding young children who in developing self-control; specifically, the following activities will be emphasized: (1) identifying variables that facilitate behavioral problems in young children; (2) identify specific classroom prevention and intervention strategies that assist young children in developing self-control. Empirically-driven and cost effective strategies for implementing strategies – in a variety of settings and under a variety of realistic constraints – will be discussed. Through didactic presentation, experiential exercises, and case examples, participants will be able to provide support through positive guidance in assisting young children to develop self-control.
