Name
Self-Regulation & Co-Regulation Strategies to Foster Social Emotional Development
Speakers
Description
In this session we will explore strategies to support children in developing self-regulation skills, as well as navigate co-regulation tools for classroom teachers through Conscious Discipline routines. Participants will learn the foundational principles of Conscious Discipline, a trauma-informed approach that emphasizes safety, connection, and problem-solving. Participants will also have time to reflect on their current practices and challenges through meaningful conversations. Through interactive exercises participants will develop skills to recognize and manage their own emotional states, while also fostering environments where young learners can do the same. To conclude the session, participants will create an action plan identifying how they will use these strategies in their own classrooms and determine the next steps for implementation. By the end of the session, participants will be able to apply Conscious Discipline strategies as used in the Frog Street curriculum to build emotional intelligence, foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, and enhance their ability to manage conflict in the classroom.
Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to identify the principles of the Conscious Discipline routine used in the classroom.
2. Participants will practice strategies for self-regulation and co-regulation to determine how this should look, sound, and feel in a classroom setting.
3. Participants will construct an action plan to implement Conscious Discipline strategies in the classroom.
