Professor Lori Huertas: Children Book Author, Born in New York and raised in Puerto Rico, Professor Huertas is now a proud Denver-based Hispanic Latina who serves as the Assistant Director of Human Capital Industry Partnerships at Metropolitan State University of Denver. A Psychology professor and doctoral student, she is also a published author and a committed community advocate. Currently pursuing certification as an International Orphan Advocate through the Boaz Project, she regularly volunteers with the Read Aloud program, reading to children in both English and Spanish.

Professor Huertas actively mentors first-time Hispanic female entrepreneurs, sharing her insights and experiences to empower them. A recent recipient of the Lena Archuleta Award, she also serves on the board of directors for organizations like Colorado Reach and SHPE , and she is actively involved with ALPFA, the leading organization for Latino professionals.

Previously, Professor Huertas served as the Director of Program Impact, where she supported community resources, family support services, education, and social enterprise programs to uplift Denver's GES community. In this role, she helped create initiatives like a community garden and weekly farmers' market to foster economic inclusion. Through her work with Focus Points and the social enterprise program at Comal in the RiNo district, she supports immigrants and refugees in launching culturally diverse food ventures, from restaurants to food trucks.

As a first-generation college student, inspired by her hardworking father who worked for Coca-Cola’s international distributor and traveled the world, Professor Huertas is passionate about education, mentorship, and advancing opportunities for others. Her diverse experiences and dedication to her community make her a dynamic role model for students and a respected voice in education and advocacy.
